A Ballet Day is a paradoxical project. Initially, using the example of a single day, it was proposed to allow the audience to acquaint itself with the ordinary, everyday life of ballet dancers. However, a huge following developed a thirst for the shows year after year, during live broadcasts and after, in recording, and turned the “routine” of an average day into a real spectacle. Our celebration this year will take place on the 1st of November.

As it has always been, the audience will be able to watch the life of the Bolshoi Ballet live. This time – on the page of the official community of the Bolshoi Theatre on VKontakte. For the first time in the history of the project, there will be a unique opportunity to see how the rehearsal process is carried out on the stage – the Historic Stage of the Bolshoi Theatre – and on the very day of the show of the rehearsed performance – the ballet Don Quixote.

Our viewers will be able to take a virtual look behind the scenes and go on stage with Kitri – leading soloist Kristina Kretova and Basil – principal of the Bolshoi Ballet, Denis Rodkin. The rehearsal, accompanied by the orchestra (conductor – Pavel Sorokin) will be held personally by Artistic Director of the ballet troupe, Mahar Vaziev. The broadcast is scheduled to start at 11:45.

For the Bolshoi Theatre, Don Quixote is a special performance. It was the only full-length ballet staged by Marius Petipa at the Bolshoi. The combination of technically virtuoso classical and character dance, the fieriness and bravura of this performance made it an example of the Moscow ballet style. The premiere of the version of the ballet, which is currently underway at the Bolshoi, was held in 2016. Alexei Fadeyechev acted as director.
