The Young Artists Opera Programme (YAOP) began its work on the 19th of October 2009 This creative workshop was organised to prepare young performers for work in modern musical theatre and give them an opportunity to develop professionally under the supervision of operatic art masters.

Teachers
The Young Artists Opera Programme continually invites outstanding teachers and piano-coaches to work with the artists. The participants of the YAOP have been trained by the masters from La Scala, the Metropolitan Opera, the Houston Grand Opera, the Bavarian State Opera, the Juilliard Schoolm, Hanns Eisler College in Berlin and the Estonian Academy of Music. One of the YAOP principles is to invite the coaches for a specific repertoire, those who specialise in a particular style or era.
Besides, the participants of the YAOP have an opportunity to learn from the best masters of the stage. Master classes have been held by Yevgeny Nesterenko, Elena Obraztsova, Elena Bogachova, Maria Guleghina, Hibla Gerzmava, Ildar Abdrazakov, Sergei Leiferkus, Albina Shagimuratova, Svetlana Nesterenko, Neil Shicoff, Carol Vaness, Laura Claycomb (USA), Natalie Dessay, Élizabeth Vidal (France), Éva Marton (Hungary), Thomas Allen (UK) and Kurt Rydl (Germany). The participants have been coached by the conductors and pianists: Alberto Zedda, Giacomo Sagripanti, Christopher Moulds, Vassily Sinaisky, Vladimir Fedoseyev, Mikhail, Vladimir and Dmitri Jurowski, Larisa Gergieva, Alessandro Amoretti, Giulio Zappa, Semyon Skigin, Ivari Ilja, Brenda Hurley, John Fisher, Irina Kataeva, Irena Kundela, Mzia Bakhtouridze, Alexandra Golubitskaya; the directors Dmitri Tcherniakov, Paul Curran (UK), Francesca Zambello (USA), Andrejs Zagars (Latvia) and many more.










Alumni
The programme has prepared sixty vocalists and fifteen pianists so far. Some of them have become soloists and accompanists at the Bolshoi Theatre, many singers continue to perform on the stage at the Bolshoi as guest artists.
YAOP alumni are sought-after at the leading theatres around the globe, including the Paris National Opera, the Royal Opera Covent Garden, La Scala, the Verona Arena, Teatro Real in Madrid, the Gran Teatre del Liceu (Barcelona), The Vienna State Opera, the Bavarian State Opera, the Berlin State Opera, the Metropolitan Opera, the Washington National Opera (the list continues). They successfully perform at several prestigious music festivals: in Salzburg, Aix-en-Provence, Glyndebourne, Wexford, Bregenz, Munich and Savonlinna.
Stage practice
YAOP artists participate in the performances and concerts at the theatre, as well as preparing their own programmes on the stage at Beethoven Hall and the Historic and New stages too. Amongst iconic projects —the cycles of concerts “All of Tchaikovsky’s romances” and “The Anthology of Russian classical romance”, the project “Cantatas. Lab”, the evenings of French, Italian and German classical music, Britten’s evenings, the festival “Baroque. The Journey”, the festival of music by Leonid Desyatnikov.
Internships
Over the years, YAOP participants have taken part in the exchange youth programmes at the Academy of the Paris National Opera, the La Scala Academy, the Academy of Florence Musical May, the Academy of Lyrical Arts in Osimo (Italy), the Young Artist Programme “Fabbrica” at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, the Accademia Rossiniana at the Pesaro’s Opera Festival, the Youth programme at the Washington National Opera.
Jubilee concert
On the 8th of December 2019, YAOP celebrated its first decade with a grand concert on the Historic Stage. The artists and alumni from various years, as well as the participants of the youth programme at Washington National Opera and La Scala participated in the event. The concert was conducted by Alexander Sladkovsky.
