Vadim Volkov

Born in Kransnodar (Russia), he graduated from the Children’s Art School named after Grigory Ponomarenko and the Krasnodar Rimsky-Korsakov Music College (class of Anna Gubareva). In 2014 he entered the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts – GITIS in Moscow (Musical Theatre Department, Dmitry Bertman’s workshop, voice teacher – Professor Emma Sarkisyan).

In 2014 he made his opera debut as Oreste in the operetta La belle Hélène by Offenbach at the Helikon Opera in Moscow. In 2014-16 he sang in a few more Helikon Opera productions: Nezhata (Sadko by N. Rimsky-Korsakov), Gustav IV (Tsarina by D. Tukhmanov), the 1st Outlaw in the world premiere of the opera Doctor Haass by A. Sergunin. He also performed Oreste in La belle Hélène at the Svetlanov Hall of the Moscow International Performing Arts Center (concert performance), Angel in The Demon by A. Rubinstein at the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall in Moscow (semi-concert performance), and Antosha Rutilov and Sasha Pylnikov in the world premiere of the opera The Petty Demon by A. Zhurbin at the Pokrovsky Chamber Musical Theatre.

In 2016-18 Vadim was a member of the Bolshoi Theatre’s Young Artists Opera Program and a participant of the YAP members’ combined concerts at the Bolshoi Theatre’s Beethoven Hall. In 2017 he and his fellow YAP member Utarida Mirzamova (soprano) gave a concert at the Orfeo International Music Festival in Vipiteno/Sterzing (Italy).

In 2020 he took part in the premiere performances of Sadko at the Bolshoi Theatre singing the role of Nezhata (conductor Timur Zangiev, director Dmitri Tcherniakov).

Also participates in Barocco new production with the Gogol-Сenter (author Kirill Serebrennikov, 2018).
