Вячеслав Самодуров


Was born in Tallinn. Graduated from the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet (Gennady Selyutsky’s class). Started his dancing career at the Mariinsky Theatre in 1992. Six years later he received the 1st prize and the gold medal at the Maya Plisetskaya International Ballet Competition («Maya», St.-Petersburg, 1998) soon after that he was promoted to Principal.

Was the leading dancer at the Mariinsky Theatre, the Dutch National Ballet and the Royal National Ballet. In 2006 Alexei Ratmansky invited him to participate at the III Workshop of New Choreography (+/- 2, to the music of Handel). After the successful debut in Moscow M. Mason a director and artistic director of the Royal Ballet, Covent Garden suggested Samodurov to participate at the workshop in London (Trip Trac to the music of Shostakovich).

Since 2011/12 season he is artistic director of the Yekaterinburg Ballet Company. In 2012 in Yekaterinburg Opera and Ballet Theatre he launched the Dance Platform – project that supports young choreographers.

PRODUCTIONS: In a Minor Key (Mikhailovsky Theatre, 2010); The Birds (Workshop of the Bayerische Staatsoper, 2011); Amore buffo (2012), Н2О (Ural Industrial Biennale of Contemporary Art, 2012), Cantus Arcticus (2012), Salieri Variations (2013), Colourdelic (2014), The Curtain (2015) – all at the Yekaterinburg Opera and Ballet Theatre); Romeo & Julia (the Royal Ballet Flanders, 2015). In 2016 for the Yekaterinburg Ballet Company he created a new production of his ballet Romeo & Julia.
