Hulkar Sabirova

The Uzbek soprano Hulkar Sabirova started her musical education at the age of sixteen at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Mannheim. Course-related she participated in masterclasses with Ks. Brigitte Fassbaender und won a spezial price at the Anneliese Rothenberger-vocal competition.

Highlights of the season 2017/18 were e.g. her debuts at both Semperoper Dresden and at the Festival Savonlinna as Konstanze/ Die Entführung aus dem Serail as well as her debut at Teatro Real Madrid as Lucio Cinna/ Lucio Silla. It furthermore included her return to the Deutsche Oper Berlin as Rosalinde/ Die Fledermaus as well as Madame Cortese in a new production of Il Viaggio a Reims.

In 2018 the artist gave her debut at Bolshoi Theater in a new production of Il Barbiere di Siviglia (directed by Evgeny Pisarev, conducted by Giorgio Morandi), and was immediately invited back to sing Madama Cortese in Il Viaggio a Reims new production (directed by Damiano Michieletto, conducted by Tugan Sokhiev); then she returned to Teatro Real Madrid as Elettra/ Idomeneo, and had performances at the Deutsche Oper Berlin aside various concerts.

In 2009 the artist started as a scholarship-holder of the Weisweiler foundation at the Deutsche Oper Berlin and became a principal of that company for three seasons. Roles at that house include e.g. Königin der Nacht/ Die Zauberflöte, Hüter der Schwelle/Falke/Stimme der Ungeborenen/ Frau ohne Schatten, Berta/ Il barbiere di Siviglia, Frasquita/ Carmen, Xanthe/ Die Liebe der Danae and for the opening of the season 2012/13 the role Soprano 1 in Helmut Lachenmanns’ Das Mädchen mit den Schwefelhölzern, a role she also portrayed at the Ruhrtriennale (Robert Wilson) subsequently. With her outstanding interpretations of both roles Lucia/ Lucia di Lammermoor and Verdi’s Requiem at the Deutsche Oper Berlin she established her status as first-class soprano.

Guest engagements led Hulkar Sabirova in 2011/12 to the Aalto-Theater Essen, where she had a huge success as Olympia in Les contes d’Hoffmann as well as Adele in Die Fledermaus under the baton of Stefan Soltesz and in summer 2013 as Contessa de Folleville in Il viaggio à Reims to the Rossini Festival in Pesaro. Of special attraction was Hulkar’s performance in Verdi’s Requiem with the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin (RSB) under the baton of Marek Janowski in November 2015.

As of 2013/14 she became a principal of the Staatstheater Kassel for three years, where she had several convincing debuts, like Rosalinde in Die Fledermaus, Iphigénie in Iphigénie en Tauride, Vitellia in La clemenza di Tito, Norma/ Norma and recently Konstanze. In summer 2015 she had a highly acclaimed success with her debut as Rosina/ Il barbiere di Siviglia at the Arena di Verona.

Hulkar Sabirova started her musical education at the age of seven years with piano and violin at the State Boarding School for musically talented children.
