Hibla Gerzmava

Graduated from the Moscow State Conservatoire in 1994, finished there her Postgraduate Course in 1996. In 1995 she joined the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Music Theatre.

Hibla Gerzmava is one of the most sought-after Russian singers at the world’s opera stages. In 2008 she made her debut at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London (Tatiana, Eugene Onegin by Tchaikovsky), in 2010 – at the Metropolitan Opera in New York (Antonia, Les contes d’Hoffmann by Offenbach), in 2012 – at the Opéra national de Paris (Vitellia, La clemenza di Tito by Mozart), in 2017 – at Milan’s La Scala (Anna Bolena in Anna Bolena by Donizetti), in 2018 – at the Dresden State Opera (Desdemona, Otello by Verdi) and the Zurich Opera House (Leonora, La forza del destino by Verdi). In the spring of 2019 she sang Desdemona at the Opéra national de Paris and in a new production by Andrei Konchalovsky at the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Music Theatre. In the spring of 2021 made her debut as Norma (Norma by Bellini) at the Teatro Real in Madrid. She has also performed at the stages of the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, the Théâtre des Champs Elysées and the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, Teatro Comunale di Firenze in Florence, the Sofia Opera and at the Bunka Kaikan in Tokyo.

In 2010 her performance of Lucia in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor brought her the highest Russian theatre award — the Golden Mask, as well as Casta Diva Critics Award and the Moscow Prize in Literature and the Arts. In 2016, she was awarded the Golden Mask for her performance of Medea in Cherubini`s Medea.

She has collaborated with prominent Russian and foreign musicians and conductors including Marco Armiliato, Vladimir Spivakov, Valery Gergiev, Alexander Rudin, Mikhail Pletnev, Vladimir Fedoseev, Vassily Sinaisky, Antonio Pappano, Jiří Bělohlávek, James Conlon, Felix Korobov, Ádám Fischer, Antonio Pappano, Fabio Luisi, Philippe Jordan and others. She sang in productions by Franco Zeffirelli, Willy Decker, Jürgen Flimm, Francesca Zambello, Krzysztof Warlikowski. Tours with recitals in France, Austria, Belgium, The Netherlands, Greece, Spain, the USA, Japan, Sweden, Turkey and all over Russia.

In 2016, she made her Bolshoi Theatre debut as Elisabeth in Verdi`s Don Carlo.
