
Gantner

Martin Gantner was born in Freiburg. He began studying voice at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik in Karlsruhe with Prof. Kern and subsequently was awarded the first prize in the VDMK competition in Berlin. He made his debut in in Koblenz as Count Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro.
From 1993 until 2006/2007 Martin Gantner was a member of the ensemble at the Bavarian State Opera and was appointed the title of Bayerischer Kammersänger in 2005. He had guest contracts at the State Opera Dresden. Performed at the Opernhaus Zurich, Vienna State Opera, Staatsoper Berlin, Metropolitan Opera New York, Los Angeles Opera, San Francisco Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Teatro alla Scala, Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Comunale di Bologna, Teatro Maestranza de Sevilla as well as in Paris, Amsterdam, Toronto and Tokyo. He sang at the Bayreuth Festival, Salzburg Festival, Edinburgh International Festival, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino.
He has worked with conductors including Zubin Mehta, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Christian Thielemann, Christoph von Dohnányi, Jeffrey Tate, Bertrand de Billy, Michael Boder, Semyon Bychkov, Philippe Auguin, and such directors as Herbert Wernicke, Jürgen Flimm, Günter Krämer, Barrie Kosky, Calixto Bieito and many others.
Martin Gantner debuted at the Bolshoi Theatre as Friedrich of Telramund in Lohengrin, 2022.
