Evgeny Nikitin

Born in Murmansk. Graduated from the St Petersburg State Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatoire (class of Bulat Minzhilkiev, 1997). While still a 4th year student, he was invited to join the Mariinsky Opera. It wasn’t long before he was invited to major theatres and festivals throughout Europe, the Americas and Asia.

2002 marked his debut at the Metropolitan Opera in War and Peace. In 2003 Nikitin made his Parisian debut at the Theatre du Châtelet in the title role of Rubinstein’s The Demon. Since 2008 he has performed regularly at the Bayerische Staatsoper (debuted as Jochanaan).

In addition, he sings frequently at the Opéra national de Paris, Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, Wiener Staatsoper, Metropolitan Opera, Zürich Opera, Leipzig Opera, Dutch National Opera, Teatro Real de Madrid, Canadian Opera Company, Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía. Takes part in various opera festivals around the world including Aix-en-Provence, Salzburg Festival, Verbier Festival, the Easter Festival in Baden Baden, Schleswig Holstein Festival, the BBC Proms in London, ‘Stars of the White Nights Festival’ in St Petersburg, etc.

In 2022 he debuted at the Bolshoi Theatre as Don Giovanni. Then he performed the role of Friedrich of Telramund (Lohengrin).

His recordings include Amfortas (Parsifal) with the Mariinsky and again with the Berlin Radio Symphony/Janowski as well as Rangoni (Boris Godunov) and Remeniuk (Semyon Kotko) for Philips Classics. 

He has also recorded a solo recital of Wagner arias for Naïve.
